There are a few things that are good to know about Maison May Vanderbilt. First of all, it is designed to be a European-style Café with outdoor seating and should not be mistaken as a grab-and-go coffee shop. We do not offer to-go cups or straws in order to reduce waste and we encourage communication and human interaction by applying a strict no laptop policy. Instead, everything in the space – including our healthy breakfast and lunch menu and gluten-free pastries – is designed to create and support a feeling of relaxation, comfort, and community.
We invite people to linger, take in the beauty of the space and its surrounding neighborhood and enjoy a cup of fair trade coffee along with a little sweet treat. Or maybe meet a friend for some catching up over a light bite.
Food is front and center at Maison May Vanderbilt. The backbone of our healthy breakfast and lunch menu are seasonally inspired, simple and clean dishes served all day. Everything is made from scratch in-house and can be enjoyed at the communal tables inside the Café or in the outdoor seating area.
Our Chef and his team take inspiration from the nearby farmers market and different European cuisines and put a strong focal point on gluten-free pastries and menu items. That said, there are certain recipes that are better left untouched because they are just perfect the way they are. That’s why not all of our pastries are gluten free.
Maison May is very lucky to have found a network of like-minded companies that supply us with coffee and tea.
Our coffee partner Devocion quite literally pours the freshest coffee in the entire city. As a Third-wave coffee roaster they truly appreciate quality and support the Columbian community it is harvested from by paying above average wages and helping micro-farmers to work consistently with nature.
Bellocq, our tea partner shares the same sensibility for their community as well as the same aesthetic with us. Besides allowing us to server their wonderfully balanced and rich tea blends they also supply us with beautiful caddies to swoon over.
By putting all this into one healthy breakfast and lunch menu and adding gluten-free pastries and other items we were able to create a menu that is good for your body and also nourishing your soul.
Possibly you can’t taste the difference between fair trade coffee and regular one but if you pay close attention you will notice that the sun might shine a little brighter for you when you sit outdoors at our Cafe.
